I like my Juke, but like any car fun car you gotta pay to play. This is where I find how much it has cost to play. In my !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! post I got the sense that no one was interested in the payments & insurance, so that is not in this post. This is just fuel & maintenance. It is not very exciting, but rather (I think) interesting.

Cool, I should probably track this too. I’m startinng to track all my maintenance but haven’t really for fuel yet.

What type of modifications did you do to it?
![]() 01/02/2018 at 13:59 |

I consider a modification a thing that is not maintenance. Unless an OEM part breaks, & it replace with better aftermarket part. (Ex. stock shocks break, get replaced with coilovers). If a good & fine OEM part gets replaced then it won’t count.

Does this car have things like differentials that need fluid changes? That’s what kills me on my Lancer Ralliart. Transfer case and diff fluid, transmissions fluid changes (~$400 each).

Mine is FWD. Saying that this year I’ll have all the fluids (brake fluid, transmission, etc) changed. Some electrical issues, a new clutch, & lots of more will get have to get done this year. So 2018 will cost more in the maintenance aspect.

It needs a new clutch already? I assume that’s from driving it hard?
My Accent is still on it’s original clutch and it has 130,000kms on it....less weight than your Juke though, I guess!

Apparently it was the first owners 1st manual transmission car.

How far do you drive / what kind of fuel economy are you getting?
Your charts made me realize that I am spending only about $40 a month on fuel (even though I’m getting about 17mpg) because my commute is so short.
![]() 01/02/2018 at 14:46 |
|
My commute is a 42.5km (one way), my avg is 7.9L/100km. Is 60%(hwy)/40%(city).

Ah...that would make sense. Your transmission has my sympathies :P

Have you done the math on how much it depreciated in that time?

Holy moly Batman! That’s a lot of miles!
It looks like things are going well in terms of cost of ownership.

It’s mostly commuting, with the occasional 500km-700km popup road trip. This year I plan on fixing lots issues. Most are minor inconveniences, with some major repairs. Just age related issues, it is a Japanese car going on 7-8 years old.

thats around 20 miles+/-? and ballpark of 7.9l is 2 gallons right? and 100 km is around 50 miles? so 25-ish miles per gallon?..... just asking, because non-metric........

How many KM did you drive in 2017?
EDIT... never mind... ~35,000km.
So your cost per km for fuel and maintenance is CAD$0.1267/km.
Not too bad!

interesting to see real life figures like that
with the wipers, are they full blade replacement or just rubber inserts?

Wow, that’s some record-keeping there. I have no desire to find out how much either of my cars cost me in 2017 — an average of 17 mpg likely would not make for an enjoyable annual fuel bill. However, driving them is very enjoyable so I don’t want to tarnish that experience!

42.5 km -> ~26.5 miles
7.9 L -> ~2 gal
100 km -> 62.1 miles
Also note that Canadian advertised mpg figures would be for miles travelled on an imperial gallon (4.54 L) instead of an American gallon (3.785 L) - the result is that our mpg figures in advertising look higher, because the gallon is bigger.
